Should you recruit, recruit, recruit and let your downline sort themselves out?
Should you recruit 2 people and help them recruit two who recruit two who recruit two?
Should you strategically place or “position” people under certain reps?
Or should you take a different approach?
Honestly, most Networkers will tell you this isn’t even worth talking about as there’s no best way to build a downline. They’ll tell you to recruit and that your downline should start recruiting also. In fact, in the majority of the companies I’ve been involved in…
I was just told to recruit and let my downline sort themselves out. Oh what a fool I was…
To cut a VERY long and HIGHLY boring story short, there is absolutely a better way to build your downline. Maybe not a best way, but you can definitely strategically build your downline for faster, easier profits and exponential growth.
Before I tell you exactly how, let me tell you what not to do:
- Don’t let your downline “sort themselves out”.
- Don’t recruit just 2 people and then help them get their two.
- Don’t listen to your stupid companies training & recruiting ideas. Most of them suck!
Strategy #1: Recruiting A Set Number Of Reps
This strategy sort of works best with matrix type schemes where you can only have x amount of people in each level of your downline. Saying that, it can work with any compensation plan and it’s an incredibly powerful model to follow if you want to see RAPID duplication. All this strategy involves is recruiting a set number of reps, then helping those guys recruit the same number of reps. As you probably already know, duplication can be a real bitch. As even if you’re a closing monster who can recruit 10+ people daily, 90% of those people will never recruit a fish. So…
I dread to say it but, you sort of need to hand hold them. I hate hand holding and believe whoever came up with the idea should be shot dead (LOL). Me personally, I don’t hand hold any of my new reps. Not unless I have a personal connection with them or they’re already doing really well. If people are doing really well, they’ll only excel with a little personal help. Anyway, hand holding is a waste of energy 90% of the time.
As you end up spending hours daily training reps only to see them quit a few months later. It’s really frustrating when that happens, trust me… I know! With that all being said, if you want to give your reps a real shot at being Network Marketing superstars, you need to personally teach them a few things. My rule: Only give away personal help to people who you truly people will excel and make you fortunes for years to come. Not some brain dead jackass who can’t put a presentation together.
A lot of MLM companies have a 2 person rule. Where once you join you only have to recruit 2 people. Then once you’ve recruited those 2 people, you help them get their two people. Then you teach them how to teach their two people and so on. Eventually resulting in a massive downline that has actually duplicated down like 10 levels. Sure, it happens sometimes but, you’ll always get a “chink in the chain” where some idiot drops out or can’t even recruit 2 people. Some comp plans use spillover where every rep you recruit after your Nth, will spill over into your downline’s downline. Filling up all spots and not leaving anyone behind. It sounds good in theory, but has some major flaws.
So this strategy can actually work, but I advise people doing it with 10-20 reps. And… I don’t mean with your first 10-20 reps. I mean recruiting hundreds if need be until you actually find 10-20 reps worthy of your time. 10-20 reps who you truly believe have the potential to build 6 or 7+ figure businesses. When you find those people, you can practically stop recruiting. You can just teach those guys how to market and how to bring in new reps daily. Simply concept, Very powerful, Needs adjusting.
Strategy #2: Using systems and constant recruiting
As I said earlier, there’s no best way to build a downline because people are different and so are compensation plans. Anyways, this is a strategy I like to personally use:I don’t encourage my downline to recruit a set number of reps as I believe people will always drop out PERIOD. Like I’ve seen reps build 4-5 figure pay checks and suddenly quit. For some obscure reason it happens. The point is that you should NEVER stop recruiting. If you use traffic systems and trust building systems you’ll be able to automate the recruiting process entirely.
Should you carefully position people in your downline?
Honestly, yeah you should. Some comp plans won’t allow you to do this. However if you’re in say a 5×5 matrix that pays $10k/month once full…
You’d need to recruit 5 rock stars at the top. Not going to talk about this too much, as this information won’t apply to the majority of compensation plans. Anyway, I like to use systems. As I said I don’t agree with hand holding as the fact is people will waste your time. That’s why it’s important to keep fueling your downline with new members through the power of marketing. Probably the most important step apart from actually recruiting… using automated training systems.
Who said you have to personally teach your reps how to do everything? The truth is that you don’t have to teach them anything. All you need is some kind of training center. Getting started training, offline marketing training, online marketing training, prospecting, recruiting and training on making phone calls. You basically need to record videos teaching EVERYTHING that goes into building a successful MLM business. If you miss anything, you’ll end up getting a bunch of questions which you obviously don’t want.
So that’s the master plan… just constant recruiting and training systems? Well yeah, there isn’t that much to it really. It goes like this…
Marketing > Lead Gen Process > Email list > Relationship building > New reps > Training systems > Duplication > Repeat
Hardly rocket science, one other thing I’d recommend doing is live training. Webinars and even get togethers. Lastly, choose a select few to go into your “elite mastermind group”. Obviously, around 5% of your downline will make up 100% of your check. The rest will just mill around doing crap all, making you pathetic commissions each month just for staying on the product auto ship. That is until they eventually decide to quit. (which is statistically proven to be in less than 12 months btw)
Now your mastermind group… you need to coach their brains out. Teach them the secrets, the stuff that you don’t share with anyone else. Teach them how to hold presentations and how to setup automated traffic systems. Most importantly, teach them how to become recruiting Jedi’s. As I just said, like 5% of your downline will make 100% of your pay check. So stop trying to help everybody by coaching your entire downline. It’s not feasible and it’s the biggest mistake in Network Marketing. Instead, find out who the 5%’ers are and talk to them. Even hold a group mastermind at your house once every quarter. Or go on a cruise will them. Remember what that Napoleon Hill guy said… 2 minds put together can produce quadruple the results as one.
In Prosperity,
